Dermaplaning

Discover your most luminous, brightest, softest skin.

Dermaplaning at The Smooth Skin Clinic.

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that removes the top layers of your skin. The procedure works to remove fine wrinkles and deep acne scarring, as well as make the skin’s surface look smooth.

  • It is safe for most people, with little risk of side effects when it’s performed by one of our certified specialists at The Smooth Skin Clinic.

  • We carry out all of our procedures in fully insured and clinically standard, private treatment rooms.

  • This procedure doesn’t require any downtime for recovery, which makes it extremely convenient.

  • Dermatologists say this treatment is effective for people looking to make their skin appear more youthful, smooth, and bright.

  • Dermaplaning can be used for any skin type and anyone with:

    • acne scars

    • dull skin

    • dry skin

    • sun-damaged skin

    • fine wrinkles

How does it work?

Dermaplaning immediately rejuvenates the skin by removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellous facial hair – also known as “peach fuzz.”

If you look at the tool used for these treatments, you may notice it looks like a razor you would use on your body hair.

The basic concept is the same as shaving. By aiming a sterile blade at a 45-degree angle and dragging it slowly across the skin, it removes dead cells, scar tissue, and other debris that may be making your skin’s surface look uneven.

Your skin is exposed daily to harsh environmental toxins, irritants, and sun damage. This can cause the top layer of your skin to appear dull, and it can make you look aged.

Dermaplaning clears away those damaged skin cells so newer skin cells are what you see when you look in the mirror. In technical terms, this is what is responsible for the removal of keratinized cells on the outer stratum corneum and fine vellous hair!

As a result of this process, it means that dermaplaning is also a highly effective procedure for minimising the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars, while leaving the skin smooth, supple and vibrant.

Before & After

The exfoliation and hair removal can leave your skin brighter and smoother. The treatment may soften fine lines and wrinkles and ease hyperpigmentation, or uneven skin tone. It’s also used to treat deep acne scars. How well it works really depends on your skin type, tone, and medical history.

  • Dermaplaning is essentially a low-risk procedure, however side-effects may include slight redness in your face in the hours after getting the treatment.

Some people develop whiteheads on their skin in the day or two after your treatment. Infection and scarring are rare after dermaplaning, but they can occur in rare instances. If you have any worries following your procedure, our experts will always be on hand to put your mind at rest.

  • No, this is physiologically impossible. The soft, fine vellous hair will grow back slowly – usually in about 4 weeks.

  • The procedure can be performed every 3-4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner actually removes about 2 to 3 weeks worth of dead skin cells.

  • It is extremely safe and requires no downtime or recovery time after the procedure. In fact, it leaves your skin healthier and more radiant in appearance and many of our clients find it as relaxing as it is effective.

  • Dermaplaning shouldn’t be used on anyone with hypersensitive skin or those with active acne. It can transfer bacteria which will cause a wider spread of infection, inflammation and possibly even scarring as a result.

It’s also not suitable for those with certain medical conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome which interferes with hair growth.

If you still want the benefits of exfoliation but suffer from acne, consider consulting a dermatologist to see if using topical treatments such as salicylic acid could work for you.
